H Tiddy are Proud Sponsors of the Roseland Youth Sailing Trust.

For many years H Tiddy have been staunch supporters of Roseland Youth Sailing Trust. In recent years we have sponsored a young person to experience life at sea on board a tall ship along with a group of other young venturers who live in and attend schools in various areas around Cornwall.

This year’s RYST offshore sailing expedition was on TS Helen Mary R. The young person we sponsored this year was Phoebe, 17, a student at Truro College. Phoebe had never sailed before.

Before the expedition, Phoebe said: “I love learning new things, and sailing has been something I have always been interested in, but never got the opportunity to try. I am looking forward to the adventure of being at sea and meeting an amazing new group of people! I have always been fascinated by the ocean and I used to want to be a marine biologist (now journalist) because I wanted to study and protect our oceans from climate change. I like to surf and swim in the sea as it is the perfect way to connect with nature and focus on the present moment, as you are always aware of the cold and movement of the water.”

The venturers left Fowey on Thursday 25 July and travelled around the English Channel visiting destinations such as Guernsey in the Channel Islands. The ship returned on Saturday 3 August to St Mawes, the same day as St Mawes Town Regatta. Pictured are Phoebe and Mark Willson, Director of H Tiddy, who first met at the RYST welcome home lunch for parents and sponsors, held at St Mawes Sailing Club.

Mark commented: “I am amazed at Phoebe’s confidence which is shown by the fact she was the only female within the group of venturers. Upon talking to Phoebe, one of the highlights of the trip for her was the delight of seeing close up a pod of dolphins playing and swimming alongside the ship.”
