Team Helen Mary R 2025 is Home at Last!
After a delay caused by Storm Floris, this years young venturers were finally welcomed home at St Mawes Sailing Club on 8 November.
This year’s expedition was a milestone for Roseland Youth Sailing Trust (RYST), celebrating 10 years since its founding, the second year aboard Morvargh’s Bowman 57, Helen Mary R, and a record 40 hopeful applicants for just 10 berths.
The offshore programme gives young people aged 16–18 life-changing experiences, teaching practical sailing skills alongside confidence, resilience, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-discovery. As RYST notes, “The most important learning comes from working as a team to overcome challenges.”
Thanks to H Tiddy’s sponsorship, Archie, 16, from Tregony, pictured below with Derek Holman of H Tiddy, enjoyed a 10-day voyage from Fowey to Falmouth, Roscoff, and Tréguier, spotting marine wildlife, exploring new shores, and making lifelong memories.
At the Welcome Home event, guests enjoyed drinks, pasties, photos, a video by venturer Alfie, and the official voyage report, White Light Across the Water. A highlight saw venturer Orson present a painting of Helen Mary R to Matt Barraud and the Morvargh team.
Mark Willson, Managing Director of H Tiddy, said: "We were proud to send a young person to sea for a fifth year. Archie returned with life-enhancing experiences, memories, and friendships, just like our previous participants."
A huge thank you to RYST, Matt Barraud, the Afterguard, and all sponsors!
