A Good Luck Message to All the Young Venturers Departing Fowey Today!

Wishing Fair Winds and Bright Futures to all those Aboard Helen Mary R.

Founded in 2015, Roseland Youth Sailing Trust is a very worthwhile registered charity (Charity Commission for England and Wales, no. 1164283) with a clear mission: to get children and young people onto the water. The Trust receives no government or local authority funding, relying entirely on donations from generous individuals and organisations. With trustees and volunteers giving their time freely, every pound raised goes directly to providing these life-changing opportunities.

Since 2021, the Trust has offered Cornish teenagers the chance to take part in offshore sailing expeditions — helping them build confidence, resilience, and practical skills as they take their next steps in life. This year marks RYST’s fifth expedition, and the second to be undertaken aboard Helen Mary R, operated by Morvargh Sailing Project.

Interest in this year’s voyage was higher than ever, with a record 40 applications for just 10 places. Selecting the crew was a challenge for the Trust, which worked hard to identify candidates with complementary skills and personalities to form a strong team — while also prioritising those who would benefit most from the experience. Each of the 10 places is fully sponsored by a generous individual or local business.

The 2025 voyage sets sail from Fowey today, and is due to return to St Mawes around midday on Monday 4 August, where the Trust will host a ‘welcome home’ lunch at the Sailing Club. Sponsors will meet their venturers and their families to hear first-hand about the journey and the impact it has had.

This year, H Tiddy is proud to sponsor Archie (pictured above with his fellow venturers, and individually below) — a 16-year-old from Tregony, a vibrant village often referred to as the gateway to the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall.

Archie shared his enthusiasm with H Tiddy Director Mark Willson, saying: “I am excited about completing an expedition at sea. I have previously sailed Picos with Veryan School and would like to experience a longer voyage, seeing marine wildlife and different shores.”

H Tiddy has been a stalwart supporter of RYST, sponsoring a young venturer for the fifth consecutive year. Based on the incredible experiences of previous participants — Bea (2021), Wilf (2022), Skye (2023), and Phoebe (2024) — we are confident that all the young people aboard this year’s expedition will return with enhanced skills, life-changing memories, and lasting friendships.

To everyone aboard Helen Mary R — we wish you fair winds, calm seas, and a voyage full of discovery.

Bon voyage!
